Does Anyone Else Remember This?

No? Well, that's probably a good thing. I kinda wish that I didn't remember it either; it makes me angry that I can still sing the chorus.

If you are scratching your head at this point, here's the background: this video was the first single off of Joey Lawrence's first album back in 1993. Yes, Joey Lawrence from Blossom (whoa!). A bit of little known trivia: the album was co-produced by Teddy Riley -- yes, that Teddy Riley, of Blackstreet and Wreckx-n-Effect (responsible for the mega-hit Rump Shaker, for all you heads). A completely unrelated piece of trivia: Teddy Riley's verse on Rump Shaker was written by Pharrell Williams (of Neptunes/N.E.R.D. fame), who was Riley's protege.

Whoa!

While we're on the subject, does anyone remember this wackness? Yea, I didn't think so. As above, I kinda wish I didn't either. This one is Jeremy Jordan's Right Kind of Love from the Beverly Hills 90210 soundtrack. Notice this similarity between this video and the previous one: the wack lyircs, the wack dancing, and that move they do where they whip their open jacket or shirt down to their forearms and shove their bare chest out with the "oh yea" look. You go, 1993! Also note that this video was shown on MTV Jams with host Bill Bellamy. If hosting a show that plays this kind of steaming dogshit isn't selling out to the man, then I don't know what is.

The really fucked up thing about this is -- oh god, this is hard to admit -- at the point in time that this was popular, I thought this dude was the coolest motherfucker on the planet. I mean, I totally wanted to be like him: the hair, the clothes, the moves, the whole nine. In retrospect, I think I may have been somewhat confused about my own sexuality during my fragile adolescence. Luckily that's over...or is it?!?!?!?!?!
